Greyhound charity cash boost hope after 13 dogs handed in

SCOTLAND'S largest volunteer greyhound charity hopes a fun-day will raise much needed funds to help re-home unwanted racing dogs.

The event at Strathclyde Country Park comes after the Greyhound Awareness League received 13 unwanted dogs in just two weeks after recent bad publicity for the racing industry.

Despite welcoming that more dogs are being handed in, the charity is struggling with kennel costs and resorting to using "foster homes".

This involves giving dogs to trusted greyhound owners to keep in their family until a permanent home can be found.

The dog show to be held on Sunday, August 13 is expected to attract more than 200 dogs and owners, all with the sole purpose of raising funds.

There will be agility dog displays, stalls, dog grooming, husky cuddling and a fire engine to keep the kids happy.

The dog show is open to all breeds and will include classes for the prettiest female and the most handsome male as well as the dog with the waggiest tail.

The event is free, and it costs only £1 for entry into each show class.

It will be held near the Park's watersports centre between 11am-3pm.
