Hard Rock casino (finally) opens doors
By Gene Sloan, USA TODAY
The rebound of Mississippi's Gulf Coast continues Saturday with the long-awaited opening of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi. The 12-floor, 318-room, $235 million complex was about to open in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina roared through the area, heavily damaging the building and surrounding area.
It has taken two years and another $75 million to put things back together. The Hard Rock is the first major new resort in the area in eight years and offers 1,445 slot machines, 50 table games, a poker room, an Aveda spa, restaurants and a top-floor lounge/nightclub with unobstructed views of the Gulf of Mexico. The club is run by lounge impresario Rande Gerber. |
