Ge's Jen scores, Westgate Alexis, Irene repeat

HARRINGTON, Del. - Phillip Mitchell's Ge's Jen won her second straight race Tuesday (1:52.2) for trainer Kevin McDermott in the $15,000 Filly and Mare Open over a sloppy track at Harrington Raceway.
The 7-year-old JK Outlaw mare was victorious in her first start with McDermott on June 16 at the Meadowlands in a lifetime best of 1:50.4. She followed that effort with a strong performance Tuesday, with a three length triumph. Driven by Eddie Davis Jr., Ge's Jen paid $3 to win. Love and Lust N was second with Yada Yada Yada A third.
After the race, W. Dittmar Jr., S. Iaquinta., Ken Wood and Henry King's Yada Yada Yada A, was presented with the horse of the meet award from the United States Harness Writers Association's Delaware Valley Chapter. The 6-year-old Armbro Operative mare finished in the money in all eight of her starts at Harrington, and won five times, earning nearly $45,000 for the spring meet.
"She's a real nice mare," said trainer Eric Ell. "She raced well for us at Dover and she picked up a notch when we brought her here."
In the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) races for 3-year-olds, two divisons for pacing fillies were contested as Rodney Wyatt's Ireneonthemove (Morgan) earned her 13th win in 17 lifetime starts in 1:55.3.
The Panhellenic Stable's Badlands Legacy (Jim Morand) won the other division in 1:56.2. Two divisions of DSBF events for 3-year-old trotting fillies were also held with repeat winner Westgate Alexis remaining perfect on the year (5-for-5) with a 2:02.2 win with Morand aboard for owners Vicki Givens and Harvey Simpson. The Wayne Givens-trainee has won 12-of-13 races lifetime.
Joseph and Ursula Ayd and Betsy Brown's CR Super Sweep (Morand) won the other division in 2:05.
Morand won four races on the program, while Ross Wolfenden registered a hat trick.
Chewy Gross and Morand in command Monday

Martin Scharf's Chewy Gross earned his 36th lifetime win on Monday, this one in 1:533 in a featured $18,500 Open at Harrington Raceway.
Chewy Gross came home off a perfect trip on Monday at Harrington Driven by Jim Morand, the 7-year-old Jenna's Beach Boy gelding got a two-hole trip behind the pacesetting Next Flight and then surged through the passing lane and defeated Harry Hornet and Gold Rocket A, in that order.
It was Chewy Gross' sixth win of the year, and his 2006 earnings soared to nearly $90,000 for trainer Josh Green.
Harrington's leading driver, Tony Morgan, won four races on the card and Ron Pierce, Jim Morand, George Dennis, and Ross Wolfenden each won two races. |
