Hilarious Dinner Theater Comes to Mahnomen March 1
Shooting Star Hosts the Regional Debut of Box Office of the Damned
MAHNOMEN, Minn.—Theater fans from around the region are in for a treat as the award-winning Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre presents an uproarious new comedy premiering exclusively at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event CenterSM. Box Office of the Damned is an irreverent musical revue that takes the audience through the horrors of a day in the life of a harried box-office staff and the public they serve.
Already heralded by Philadelphia Weekly as “Pure theatrical Viagra: you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to see it twice more,” the dinner-theater production is expected to be well-received as it debuts at Shooting Star on March 1, one week before its regular run at Fargo’s Avalon Events Center. “Shooting Star is the perfect venue for presenting theater like Box Office of the Damned, which is geared much more toward adults. Every time we bring a show to the casino, it sells out quickly,” explains Sherry Shadley, business and development director for the theater company.
Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre expects the six-person cast of Box Office to give audiences even more of the side-splitting laughs they’ve come to expect from the company’s musical comedies. “It’s in the vein of hits like Don’t Hug Me and Tony and Tina’s Wedding,” says Co-Director Charlene Hudgins, “but the material is so clever, there’s not a person, musical genre or theatrical reference that isn’t somehow lampooned during the play.” Asked what the hardest part of putting on such a complex musical with elaborate character and wardrobe changes, Hudgins replies, “If there’s an obstacle, it’s that the actors are still at the stage of laughing all the way through rehearsal.”
Curtain for the March 1 show is at 8 pm with dinner at 7 and social time beginning at 6:30. Tickets are available by calling Shooting Star Casino at 800-313-7469.
