by Natalie Leung A couple from the mainland, who allegedly consumed illicit drugs in a casino hotel, were discovered by police after the fire alarm was activated in their room yesterday.
A hotel room of a casino in Taipa alerted its staff members to break into the room and put out the fire after the fire alarm was heard at 6am, police spokesperson Chan Kin Hong said.
Drug apparatus were then seen inside the room and thus the hotel notified the narcotics division of the Judiciary Police.
Mr Chan said police suspected the hotel room occupants accidentally left a tinder in the rubbish bin before they went out which led to the incident.
Police arrested the couple when they returned later in the morning and searched the room after their consensus was given.
Two grams of amphetamines, "Yaba", were found after a body search on the 44-year-old man, surnamed Wu who came from Hubei province of China with a Chinese passport.
His girlfriend was a 21-year-old surnamed Hon from China's Anhui province.
A large quantity of drug apparatus such as straws, plastic bottles, lighters and foil wrap pieces were seized from the room, Mr Chan said.
The pair admitted to police they bought the drug from the mainland and consumed it inside the room.
