Hundreds already in line for shot at 'Deal'

The casting call for NBC's television game show Deal or No Deal at the Fort McDowell Casino won't begin until 1 p.m. Tuesday, but hundreds of people already were in line Monday, a casting director for the show said.

Employees at the casino, 10424 N. Fort McDowell Road, said a crowd began to form Monday afternoon and was expected to keep growing.

"There's just tons of people. You can't even find a parking space over there," said Janice Fioretto, who works for the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort and Casino's guest services department. "They're coming from all over Arizona."

Contestants are confronted with 26 "briefcase girls" on a stage. The contestants choose suitcases, trying to guess which one holds a $1 million prize. Along the way they are given the chance of stopping the selection process in exchange for a "deal," an offer of money to stop playing.

Fioretto added that the resort is completely booked until Thursday, which she believes is due in great part to the game show's open casting call.

Mary-Rachel Foot, a casting director for the show, said up to 10,000 people are expected.

Casting directors will be looking for contestants from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday for the show's pending third season.

Each person will have about 20 seconds to impress the judges, Foot said.

"We're not looking to hear sob stories. We're not looking to hear 'Oh, (I) love the show,' " Foot said. "I look for people that can really play with their environment and have fun and be creative."

Phoenix is the second stop on the show's nine-stop casting call tour, Foot said.

Those chosen by the directors during the tour will be presented to the producers, who will then make the final cuts, Foot said.

Deal or No Deal airs at 8 p.m. Sundays and 7 p.m. Mondays.

No one younger than 18 will be allowed to stand in line overnight.
