DOVER -- Former gubernatorial candidate Frank Infante Jr. is set for trial June 19 on misdemeanor charges stemming from the confiscation of three slot machines from his Smyrna saloon in March.
According to the Kent County Court of Common Pleas clerk’s office, Infante appeared today for a final review of his case and requested a trial by jury.
Infante’s Bulldozer’s Saloon was among six Delaware establishments raided in March after undercover officers with the state Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement conducted investigations into reports of illegal gambling. Authorities seized 23 video poker machines and more than $9,000 in cash in the raids.
Infante is charged with three counts of possessing a gambling device and one count each of keeping a gambling device and providing premises for gambling . Under state law, slot machines may be operated legally only at the state’s three “racinos” -- Dover Downs, Delaware Park and Midway Slots & Simulcast.
In 2004, Infante, 39, ran for governor on both the Independent and Libertarian party tickets. His main platform was opposition to the state’s smoking ban.
