Iowa Tribe to hold grand re-opening

Casino news from http://nativetimes.com/ The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma’s revamped Cimarron Casino is slated to debut to the public on Aug. 15. Tribal officials say the new-look Cimarron will feature 300 new gaming devices, along with video poker and a state-of-the-art air handling system. “We are excited this day is finally here,” said casino general manager Peter Nairn. “Guests will be amazed at the quality of work inside the new casino and equally impressed by the staff. We hope the entire community will turn out to see the changes and return over the next few months as we introduce additional enhancements.” The Cimarron totals 9,100 square feet, is open 24 hours a day and employs one hundred people. Minnesota-based Lakes Entertainment, Inc., is managing the casino. The company is no stranger to Indian gaming, also managing gaming operations in Michigan and California as well as Oklahoma. Lakes recently announced that during the second quarter of 2006, a period encompassing April, May and June, they generated revenues of $11.2 million. Terms of the contract between Lakes and the Iowas have not been disclosed, but the company’s gaming contract with the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma calls for Lakes to receive 30% of net revenues. The Iowas are based in Perkins, the same town where the Cimarron is located. Perkins is about 10 miles south of Stillwater. The tribe, federally recognized since 1938, signed a gaming compact with the state in June of 2005. An indication of how important the casino is to the area economy could be found in the fact that planning on attending the official reopening are representatives from the Chamber of Commerce in the towns of Perkins, Stillwater, and Cushing.
