BATON ROUGE – The Isle of Capri Casino in Bossier City will become known as Diamond Jack’s Casino and Resort-Bossier City on July 31.

The Louisiana State Gaming Control Board this morning approved the sale of the Isle’s casino in Louisiana to Legends Gaming, LLC, a corporation that has casino properties in several states, including Nevada, Illinois and Indiana.

The $240 million deal also includes the purchase of the Isle’s Vicksburg riverboat casino, which is due to be approved Thursday by the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

The new owners include William J. McEnery, 64 of Evergreen Park., Ill., who has a 64 percent interest, and was on the board of Argosy Casinos, which sold its interest in the Belle of Baton Rouge casino. Michael E. Kelly, 44, of Las Vegas, is president and CEO of Legends and George D. Marshal, 60, of Elmwood, Ill, will each own 18 percent.

The gaming board also approved Legends’ use of the “Diamond Jack’s” trademark.

Kelly said the casino would close at 3 a.m. July 31 and reopen early that afternoon after the companies change out all the chips and other necessary gaming equipment. The Isle of Capri signs will start coming down this week and the new Diamond Jack’s signage will go up as it arrives.

The company plans no major employment changes, although some current Isle employees will be promoted, Kelly said. Legends has also already informed employees of the new health, dental and vision insurance plans that will offer more coverage at lower costs to the employees. In addition, Legends is doubling from 25 cents to 50 cents the amount of money it will match for each $1 employees put into their 401K savings plans.

“We’re going to roll out some more benefits at an employees meeting on the 31st,” Kelly said. “They are ecstatic.”

The company will be making theme changes, removing the Caribbean theme. Each restaurant will be renovated and new menus offered, he said. Additionally, the company plans to continue renovating the hotel.

Joe Colllins, 66, a Marshall, Texas, native who has spent a lifetime in gaming since graduating from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, will be the Bossier casino’s general manager.

“We want to be a good neighbor,” Collins said. “We want to fit in the fabric of the Bossier community.”

Collins is moving from management of another casino company’s property in Blackwood, Colo., just outside Denver.
