It's a sign: Things are changing for east Carson casino
Former Piñon Plaza gets new sign for new name
BRAD HORN/Nevada Appeal A man photographs the unveiling of the Gold Dust West Casino sign at the old Piñon Plaza casino on Highway 50 on Wednesday afternoon.
A Gold Dust West sign today greets commuters looking skyward on Highway 50 East near the Carson City freeway.
The new sign unveiled Wednesday afternoon reflects a change in ownership for the former Piñon Plaza that took place when escrow closed June 26.
The new owners plan to invest about $5 million into the casino, opened 11 years ago by prominent local businessman Clark Russell, president of Capital City Entertainment Inc.
Capital City Entertainment sold the resort casino to Jacobs Entertainment, based in Golden, Colo.
The private corporation also operates two limited-stakes casinos in Black Hawk, Colo., and the Gold Dust West in downtown Reno.
In addition to the name change, planned improvements include adding more than 200 ticket-in/ticket-out slot machines and a software upgrade in the hotel and bowling center. |
