Labor Day opening for Riverside Casino
By: John Butters
The Riverside Casino and Golf Resort will open ahead of schedule and just in time for the Labor Day holiday.
With construction nearly finished, the carpeting down and the machines on the floor, workers are rushing to complete the finishing touches on the entryway and other small projects, said Cheryl Goode, Marketing Director.
Private gala for VIP's
A private gala is planned on August 31 for 2,000 vip's and investors to sample the food, music and excitement offered inside the upscale gaming and lodging facility. The general public will be welcomed afterwards with a Grand Opening Weekend hosting live entertainment and celebrity appearances.
The 58,000 sq. ft. casino will have 24 black jack tables, four craps tables, two roulette tables and a poker room. In addition to gaming, it will have a show lounge on the main floor that will stage local acts and entertainment. Dining amenities include Ruthie's Steakhouse, an elegant steak and seafood restaurant; a buffet with Asian, Italian and American-style cooking stations and a 24-hour diner.
The Riverside Promises a 'very upscale' look and feel.
"Our guests are going to see a place like nowhere else in the Midwest. Very upscale," said Goode. "The hotel will have the look and feel of luxury. Every room will be fully appointed, with plasma tv's. Each will have a view of the golf course."
The 204-room hotel has an indoor-outdoor pool and a spa, she said. It also contains an event center that will present nationally and internationally acclaimed entertainment acts.
With construction nearly complete, management is focused on filling an estimated 850 employee positions. The casino will need 250 dealers, which they expect to come from the training schools they established this past May.
Goode said that dealing for the casino opens the door to management positions. As and example, she began her career as a dealer and is now a marketing director.
"You learn the whole business from the floor," she said.
The 18-hole, championship golf course, designed by Rees Jones, will open in the spring of 2007, she said.
The hotel is taking reservations now, Goode said, in anticipation of the upcoming Iowa Hawkeye games.
"We are going to be very busy," she said. |
