82 electronic gaming machines and over $10,000 in cash was seized last Thursday afternoon in a raid conducted by the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, the Atkins and Russellville police departments, the Arkansas State Police and 5th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Officers from the five agencies split into four teams and served search warrants for gaming machines, money and prizes associated with the machines on four locations. Warrants were served on Pea Ridge Grocery, owned by Cathon Calhoun where ten machines owned by Tim Greeno of Games 4 U of Conway were seized; at a residence at the intersection of Duvall road and 105, owned by Becki and Mickey Ketchum where 21 machines were seized, owned by Greeno; at a residence at Moreland, owned by Cecil and Barbara Shaddon where 21 machines were seized, also owned by Greeno, and at a Crow Mountain residence on Shinn Loop, owned by Benny and Mary Pierce where 30 machines were seized, owned by Charles Patrom of Charlotte’s Amusement of Morrilton.

According to Atkins Police Chief Charles Martin there were people on the premises when the warrants were executed but no arrests were made. Prosecutors will look at everything and determine what charges are to be filed. "We’ll go back and make the arrests then," Martin said.

Juveniles arrested

The Atkins Police Department arrested five juveniles on Sept. 5 after a Labor Day holiday crime spree. According to Chief Martin two businesses, one residence and multiple vehicles were broken into and seven bicycles were stolen.

Arrests were made on juveniles between the ages of 14 and 17 after Officer Greg Williams caught two juveniles in the area of the break-ins at 2:30 a.m. and got their information. The juveniles were later questioned about the break-ins and arrested, along with three others.

"Williams doing his job really helped us…he actually broke the case," said Martin.

Curfew in Atkins is 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
