8th Coach Que has figured out this game. He lost the first seven races of his career, showing only a glimmer of talent; but he has won four of his last seven. Two of those victories have come on the turf, where he could be unbeaten if not for a troubled trip in his grassy debut. And so he's the one to beat in today's featured race. But Zone Stopper is intriguing. He had some trouble when he finished fourth, two lengths behind Coach Que, in their recent meeting: He was moving with the winner when he had to be checked in mid-stretch. Together, Coach Que and Zone Stopper could be a solid exacta.
1st Foxwood Annie has won two of four outings, including her last in impressive fashion, and she should enjoy a perfect stalking trip here. She's an enticing key for the Daily Double, with Rocket Junior, Ten Forty Easy, Gun Town and Rock De Stars in the second race.
5th Favorite Jazz seems to be moving in a positive direction. He won his last outing by more than six lengths, and he has trained sharply since then. On July 3, he worked a half-mile in 49.40 seconds, which isn't especially eye-catching, but in doing so he ran the final quarter-mile in 24.20 seconds and galloped strongly, completing five furlongs in 1:02.18, which would have been the second-fastest time of the day for that distance. Favorite Jazz appears to be very sharp and is an enticing key for multi-horse investments, with Our River Card, Down Home Boy and Snuck By.
7th This maiden affair just might be the most intriguing race of the day. Dream of Angels, Fire Wheel and Going Ballistic all have shown considerable, both in races and in workouts. And first-time starters Eldon's Effort and Locomotion have impressed in the mornings with their workouts. Fire Wheel was best of four out of the gate in five-furlong workout on June 14 and then finished third in a solid debut. Going Ballistic on June 29 outworked a stablemate by eight lengths while running the final quarter-mile in 24 seconds, suggesting he's moving forward after finishing fourth in his debut. Dream of Angels, who was best of three in a gate workout on June 10, finished second in his debut despite getting bumped and having to race wide. And Locomotion has looked sharp in his last two workouts. Yes, this is a talented group of "babies." From here, Dream of Angels appears to have a slight edge in a very good race.
