The lottery is the first in Alberta to offer as a prize the use of a private luxury Learjet, something that will boost the contest’s profile and help raise money for cancer research, said Nav Shergill, with the Canadian Cancer Society today. “I think it’d be good for businesses and if anyone’s planning a destination wedding, this would be the cat’s meow,” said Shergill, whose organization partners with the Alberta Cancer foundation for the lottery, which this year features $4.8 million in prizes. Alberta Cancer Foundation chairwoman Pattie Culver said she’s ecstatic with the addition of the early-bird prize. “This is just a wonderful way to raise funds,” she said. “It’s very important to provide care for patients and their families in this province.” The early-bird prize of 50 hours of flight time in the jet, provided by Sunwest Aviation, comes with $25,000 in cash. The deadline to get in for the Oct. 11 early-bird draw is Sept. 27. Grand prizes also include $1 million in cash, a Lamborghini Gallardo and $50,000 cash, and a Bentley Continental GT plus $15,000.
