A Jacksonville couple has claimed a $7.4 million Megabucks jackpot they won in the Sept. 6 drawing.
Derek and Molly Wolfe walked out of the Oregon Lottery office in Salem with a check for $2.479 million Tuesday afternoon, said Ray Martin, an Oregon Lottery spokesman who works with winners.
The couple, who have three children, took a one-time payout of half the prize value, Martin said. As required by law, lottery officials withheld 25 percent for federal taxes and 8 percent for state taxes, he explained.
There was no sign of the Wolfe family at their home on Hueners Lane late Tuesday. The house, like the rest on the quiet street, was dark and seemed settled for the night.
The Wolfes' winner was $5 worth of quick-pick numbers purchased at the Ray's Food Place in Jacksonville. The winning numbers were 19, 21, 25, 33, 38 and 40.
The Ray's Food Place also sold the winning ticket to Steve and Carolyn West and Bob and Frances Chaney, who won a record $340 million Powerball jackpot last October. Another Ray's customer won more than $850,000 in the same drawing.
Ray's manager Randy Lewis said the store will have a $76,000 lottery bonus assigned to its bottom line as its 1 percent share of the Wolfes' prize.
When the Wolfe family settles in and lottery officials work out the details, the grocery store will host a short ceremony to honor the winners, he said. It likely will be Thursday.
Lewis said he didn't recognize the Wolfes' name, but he doesn't know all the store's customers by name.
Martin said the couple, who were in their 30s and accompanied to the Oregon Lottery office by their young son, were "nice people," who wanted to keep fairly quiet about their win.
