Louisiana Poker Bill Most Likely Dead
Bill Probably Won't Be Voted on this Year

The Louisiana State Senate pushed back a bill that would allow bars in the state to host poker tournaments once a week, essentially ending Rep. Warren Triche’s bid to allow pub tournament poker to be spread in the state.

The bill made it through a judiciary committee earlier this month, but the Senate voted to delay voting on the bill, which will mostly likely kill the bill for this legislative session.

Calls to Rep. Triche went unanswered this morning.

The bill would have have allowed establishments licensed to sell alcohol to run Texas hold’em tournaments one night a week. By law, the bar owners would not be allowed to charge juice on the tourneys. The tourneys would be used to bring people into the establishments on slow nights.

Triche tried to get his bill passed both earlier this year and last year. Last year the bill failed to advance to the governor’s office by two votes. Earlier this year, it failed by seven votes.
