Online gambling news from http://www.bettingmarket.com/

Whilst shares in online gambling operator Sportingbet enjoyed something of a relief rally yesterday, on the news that the company's ex - Non-executive Chairman Mr Peter Dicks had been granted an extension to his bail permitting him to return to the United Kingdom, those gambling that the whole affair is at an end, may be caught short.

In the first instance, representatives from Louisiana will be in New York on 28 September to argue their case for Mr Dicks' extradition. The fact that Mr Dicks has been allowed to return to the UK does not in anyway dilute their case.

Secondly, and more importantly, The London Times reports this morning that Louisiana has a total of more than 50 warrants outstanding against executives from internet gambling companies that have clients who live within the states boundaries; "It is believed that those targeted by the warrants include other Sportingbet directors, including Nigel Payne, the chief executive, and board members of companies including PartyGaming and 888 Holdings."

If true, this would represent the first time that a US state has issued arrest warrants against executives of companies that are specifically involved with online casinos and online poker.

The worry, expressed in the wake of Dicks' arrest, that Louisiana's action may open the floodgates, and lead to other states with anti-gambling legislation moving against the online gambling industry remains very real.

This is just plain ridiculous.

Does anyone else notice that it is LA, the state that has put most of its post Katrina recovery plans into land based casinos, that has started this?

If this was foreign countries doing this to US executives, I bet there would be a different reaction from Washington and the DOJ.

Good Point.

To me it is a shame that so few how the power to effect so many. I bet the DOJ is setting back thanking them for taking the heat off their butts

So the charges allege that his company took bets from residents of Louisiana, that's it right? And ok, if they took them on the phone I can see them siting the wire-act.

But if they are looking for partygaming and 888 holdings? this means they are going after people who take casino deposits from residents of that state. this is breaking outside of the sportsbetting industry. Those companies don't operate sports betting facilities or take bets over the telephone that I know of.

There have been a lot of facts that just don't add up in all of these recent events. Maybe the feds are using Louisiana because there is no federal law prohibiting gambling online that I know of. So in order to operate, they are using Louisiana?

I know I'm reaching... just trying to understand what's going on.
