LINCOLN — Nebraska will soon be making a Las Vegas-like appearance — in Asia.
State ag officials and Gov. Dave Heineman announced Friday that Nebraska beef will be a featured product at a sprawling new casino in Macau. The Chinese territory connected to the mainland is attracting billions of dollars from investors and experiencing rapid growth as a top tourist draw in Asia.
The deal was announced during a Heineman-led trade mission to Asia.
Owners say the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel, which opened late last month, is twice the size of the Las Vegas original. At 10.5 million square feet, it's the largest building in Asia and the second largest in the world.
The monetary value of the deal signed by hotel representatives was unclear, said officials with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture and the Nebraska Beef Council. But it will ensure beef products from the state will be sold to the hotel and be a featured item at special events for a year, said state ag director Greg Ibach. |
