Casino news from http://www.nbc6.net/

A South Florida man said he hit the jackpot at the Hard Rock casino only to find out hours later that he would not see a penny.

Freddy Howard said he won nearly $260,000 on Tuesday morning at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. He said he had pictures with the trophy check to prove it. The only problem is the casino said it will not pay out, NBC 6's Carlos Vergara reported.

"I'm about to have a nervous breakdown because I'm very disappointed that they have betrayed me like this," Howard said.

Howard claimed he won the jackpot by swiping a Rockin' Rewards Players Club card at the kiosk near the exit of the casino and entering the exterior bars and restaurants.

Howard said the casino told him "it was a machine malfunction."

The casino released a statement saying, "The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Swipe and Win Progressive Jackpot was not won. Seminole Tribal Gaming Commission is reviewing and investigating the patron complaint of the alleged winning."

Howard is not sitting idly by. He has hired an attorney to look into the matter and into the self-regulated Indian Gaming Association.

"Apparently you have a nation within a nation that can run things the way they want, make the rules and when they don't like the rules, change the rules. So when you come here, what are you really coming for?" said Howard's attorney, Keith Herbert.

Howard is gambling that the casino will see things his way with the help of an attorney and pictures that he said are proof that the casino had verified his winnings before issuing the big trophy check.

Howard's attorney said it happened so fast that they are still looking into ways to resolve the issue by means of a hand-delivered letter to the Hard Rock. According to the Howard camp, there has been no response from the Hard Rock, Vergara reported.

If you have pictures and a big trophy check...I just don't think "machine malfunction" is a good excuse.

I hope they pay the man!

I agree. Machine malfunction should land on the manufacturer of the slot machines, or the casino, or they should split the cost of the problem, but one thing you should not do is give someone who gambles in your establishment the idea that they are over $200,000 richer than before and then take that away from them.

This guy could be doing anything with the money. Maybe a sick family member, anything... you never know. I would feel the same way.

It really takes the romance out of slot gambling when they do this stuff.

Mistake or no mistake, they told the man he won and in my opinion they should have to pay him. I'd be devastated if someone told me I had won a quarter of a million dollars then came back and said "oops". He did the right thing in hiring an attorney.
