Manhunt Shuts Down Belterra Casino For Hours
A large-scale manhunt in the Tri-state lasted several hours after a wild incident in which a suspect stole a police cruiser.
The manhunt also led to a lockdown at the Belterra Casino, Resort and Spa.
The pursuit began when Michael Bailey drove off the road near the Markland Dam in Switzerland County.
When deputies questioned Bailey, they learned he was wanted in Kentucky for a parole violation.
Police say Bailey then took off on foot for a short time before stealing the deputy's cruiser.
The deputy who had initially responded to the run fired his gun and hit the cruiser but not Bailey.
Bailey then abandoned the police car about a half-mile down the road and took off on foot again.
Because of the proximity of Belterra Casino, officials had the building placed on lockdown so that Bailey couldn't attempt to hide inside the casino.
Around 3:30 a.m., a resident spotted Bailey in Patriot, Indiana and after another short chase, Bailey was taken into police custody.
Officials are still trying to piece together how Bailey made it to Patriot but are questioning him this morning. |
