The only Supreme to endure throughout the group's entire lifespan, Mary Wilson was born in Mississippi and raised by an aunt and uncle in the less-than-promising surroundings of Detroit's Brewster Projects. During her high school years, she befriended Florence Ballard and Diana Ross and formed the vocal group The Primettes. The group later signed a record deal with Motown and became The Supremes.
When The Supremes broke up in 1977, Wilson embarked on a solo career including the 1979 Motown release, "Mary Wilson" followed by the 1992 release, "Walk the Line". In addition to her music career, Wilson became a successful stage and screen actress. She starred in the musical "Beehive" in 1988 and more recently, in a national tour of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies"; supporting roles followed in "Brown Sugar" and Disney’s "Tiger Town".
The Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer's childhood struggles and climb to fame as part of The Supremes is well documented. Her two bestselling "tell-all" books: "Dreamgirl-My Life As A Supreme" and "Supreme Faith" turned many heads, raised a few eyebrows and dished the dirt from inside the Motown enclave.
