Operators of The Meadows race track, expecting to be awarded a casino license in the fall, have hired LPCiminelli as construction manager for the planned $450 million Meadows Racetrack & Casino project.
LPCiminelli, of Buffalo, N.Y., will oversee work on a temporary casino and the permanent, 250,000-square-foot, two-story casino, which would hold 3,000 slot machines at the harness track in Washington County, Pa.
LPCiminelli has also managed the construction and renovation of major gaming and racing projects at nearby Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center, Wheeling, W.Va., and is working on the track in Saratoga, N.Y.
The Meadows likely would be the first bidder awarded a casino license in the Pittsburgh region by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Pittsburgh will also receive one, stand-alone slots casino license.
Meadows PA LLC is the holding company for The Meadows. The track's owner, Magna Entertainment Corp. (NASDAQ: MECA) of Toronto, plans to sell the 43-year-old harness racing facility to Millennium Gaming of Las Vegas, which intends to have a slots parlor open by January in a temporary facility adjacent to the harness track.
The Meadows casino's architect is Climans Green Liang Architects Inc., of Toronto.
