The Mohegan tribe and three partners plan to develop a "Mohegan Sun-style" casino in Wyandotte County, Kansas.
According to information released this week by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which runs the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, its partners will include the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs near Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Olympia Gaming-KC, LLC, and RED Leg Sun, LLC, a developer of "retail lifestyle centers" and destination resorts.
The proposed project, dubbed "Legends Sun," would feature attractions and amenities like those here in Connecticut, including a casino, luxury hotel, convention center and lifestyle retail center. Once completed, RED Leg Sun would manage the retail business while the Authority would mange casino and related operations.
RED Leg Sun, is a subsidiary of RED Development LLC, which formed in 1995 and develops, leases, manages and owns shopping centers that focus on open-air regional "lifestyle" retail centers, as well as entertainment centers. Olympia Gaming-KC is a subsidiary of Olympia Gaming, LLC, one of southern Nevada's real estate and casino developers.
Jeff Hartmann, the Authority's chief operating officer, said the project would create more than 3,000 construction and permanent jobs and generate "significant" tax revenue for the state of Kansas.
