FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - SunRay Park and Casino has been fined $7,500 for failing to notify state officials a key executive had faced criminal charges.
The state Gaming Control Board issued the citation in May after Farmington businessman Bernard Strunk agreed to cut his ties as an executive with SunRay for five years.
Strunk stepped down from his position at the casino March 30, 2005 _ two days before a state gaming investigator began researching his 2003 arrest.
The Gaming Control Board sought to revoke Strunk's certification for oversight of the casino June 22, 2005, after he failed to notify the state within 10 days that he faced criminal charges, state documents show.
Strunk had been charged with a fourth-degree felony in connection with the beating of a man in December 2003. He later was convicted of attempted aggravated battery.
The charge recently was wiped off Strunk's permanent record after he was granted a conditional discharge for completing 18 months of unsupervised probation, according to court records and his lawyer, Jack Fortner.
