Oct. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Dunedin Casinos Management Ltd., the gaming company part-owned by New Zealand's biggest casino operator Sky Entertainment Group Ltd., had its license suspended for two days for failing to offer help to a problem gambler

The Gambling Commission, which regulates the nation's casinos, suspended the license of Dunedin Casinos, which has operated a casino in the South Island city since April 2004. The regulator said the company breached the obligations of its license to offer help to gambler Christine Keenan, according to a report on the Commission's Web site.

Keenan was arrested and convicted for stealing NZ$500,000 ($331,000) from her employer in December 2004. A commission hearing in August was told that Keenan spent more than NZ$6.6 million in the casino between April 2001 and August 2004, during which time she received free food and drinks. The casino operator before April 2004 was Aspinall (NZ) Ltd.

The Department of Internal Affairs had sought a seven-day suspension. The commission opted for a shorter period because Dunedin Casinos wasn't operating the casino for the whole time Keenan gambled there, and because relevant part of the Gambling Act came into effect in July 2004, it said.

The two-day suspension must occur before Nov. 17.

Dunedin Casinos is 33 percent owned by Christchurch Casino, which is 41 percent owned by Auckland-based Sky City. Shares of Sky City were unchanged at NZ$5.28 as at 11:45 a.m. in Wellington.
