NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship Invites Familiar Pros

2007's Hottest Players Also Receive Coveted Invitation
NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship TrophyThe NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship shows 64 of the best poker players in the world going head to head to compete for a hefty first-place prize and priceless bragging rights. This year, those who have been asked to participate include many of the staples in the poker world, as well as players who have been particularly successful in 2007.
Among those who are National Heads-Up veterans that have been invited back are Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Antonio Esfandiari, Erick Lindgren, Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, and Gavin Smith. At the 2007 event, Paul Wasicka, the 2006 World Series of Poker runner-up, defeatedChad Brown and Paul Wasicka Chad Brown in the championship match, and he has been re-invited to give him the chance to defend his title. Chris Ferguson, who finished second in both 2005 and 2006, is also being given another opportunity at the title.
Last year, Shannon Elizabeth, previously known for her beauty and charm on the big screen, proved to her peers that she can play with the best of them. She nearly missed playing heads up for the title when she lost to Wasicka in the semi-final. Elizabeth has been extended an invitation to attempt to best last year’s finish.
NBC is also giving some new players a chance at the prestigious title, Shannon Elizabethincluding those who have made a mark in 2007. Jonathan Little was one of the hottest players in 2007. This was proven by his third-place finish in the Card Player Player of the Year race. Little, as well as 2007 World Series of Poker main event champion Jerry Yang and high-stakes cash game player Brian Townsend, have all been invited to play.
Although these players have not yet confirmed their participation, many consider the invite to be an honor. The event is scheduled to kick off with a pairing party at the PURE nightclub as Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (the tournament will also be held at Caesars Palace). Play will begin on Feb. 28, 2008, and a winner will be crowned on March 2, 2008. |
