SWIFT CURRENT (SNN) -- The name of Saskatchewan's latest casino was unveiled Friday during a groundbreaking ceremony on the site where it and an entertainment facility will be built during the next 18 months.
Construction of the Living Sky Casino is expected to begin in June. Tenders for the $35-million project will go out next week. It is expected to open in late 2008.
Renderings of the casino were unveiled showing the design of the 50,000-square-foot building. Inside will be 220 slot machines, 10 live tables and theatre-style seating for 600 in the entertainment facility.
A second phase, including a hotel behind the casino, are to come in the future. Up to 200 full- and part-time employees will staff the casino.
The casino was approved by the provincial government in October 2004 after a plebiscite held in conjunction with the 2003 municipal election found 55 per cent of voters in favour of the project. |
