New Casino for Sparks Marina?

A new casino and resort hotel might be coming to Sparks. Its been proposed as part of the "Legends at Sparks Marina" retail and entertainment project.
A spokesman for RED Developments says about 12 weeks ago, they were approached to include a 1,000-room hotel, spa and casino in their project. Olympia Gaming, which runs Casino Fandango in Carson City, wants to build the resort right on the water. The proposal also calls for five restaurants, a private beach, a water-front amphitheater and convention space.
Sparks Mayor Geno Martini says the land is zoned tourist-commercial, which means a casino is allowed to go in. He says other hotels and casinos in the area will also benefit because of the tourist draw. RED Development estimates their project will lure 800,000 outsiders each year.
The Kansas City developer also announced five new businesses that have signed on. A Mexican restaurant called Cantina Corona, Freedom Roads and Camping World, Pin-Up Bowl, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse and Brooks Brothers. They will join Scheels All Sports. RED’s proposal also includes a professional baseball park to house a AAA team they're still trying to lure to the area. |
