New MGM Grand Detroit to Open Oct. 2

DETROIT - The opening of the new, 17-story, $800 million MGM Grand Detroit hotel and casino will take place Oct. 2.
The announcement came Thursday after MGM Mirage Inc. (nyse: MGM - news - people ), operator of the MGM Grand Detroit and other casinos, said its second-quarter profit more than doubled.
About 1,000 new jobs will be created by the opening, which is good news for a state with the nation's highest unemployment rate.
The MGM Grand Detroit, along with the city's other two new casinos, are expected to increase business and visitor travel to the Detroit area.
The MotorCity Casino hotel is to open in November, while the new Greektown Casino will open in a little more than a year.
The Detroit casinos opened in temporary facilities in 1999 and 2000.
The MGM Grand Detroit hotel will feature 400 guest rooms, three restaurants and a resort-style spa. Guest rooms and suites will range in size from 510 to 2,225 square feet. |
