A new gambling boat plans move to Myrtle Beach
(Myrtle Beach, SC) April 4, 2006 - A new gambling boat plans to set sail from the docks in Little River.
The launch of the Diamond Girl Two comes weeks after the Horry County Council voted not to ban casino boat operations outright.
Instead, the county is using a law passed last summer to charge ten percent of a casino boat's boarding fees and five percent of gross proceeds.
The owners of the only other gambling boat in South Carolina is challenging the fees. SunCruz Casinos says the state can't tax wagers made outside its jurisdiction.
The boats sail outside the state's waters, where gambling is allowed, then bring them back without stopping at any other ports. |
