A new casino near the Kansas-Oklahoma border is scheduled to open Feb. 1 near the travel plaza and casino operated by the Otoe-Missouria tribe.
The tribe plans to continue operating the Lil' Bit of Paradise Casino connected to the travel plaza as well as the new First Council Casino directly west of the travel plaza, according to a tribal spokeswoman.
It will be the fourth casino operated by the Otoe-Missouri tribe and the seventh casino along the 41-mile stretch of highway between the Kansas border and the Cimarron Turnpike.
The Otoe-Missouri Development Authority operates the Seven (7) Clans Paradise Casino and a travel plaza 15 miles south of Ponca City on U.S. 177. The Osage tribe's Million Dollar Elm Casino opened New Year's Eve. It is located at the intersection of U.S. 60 and City View Road and features a range of Law Vegas-style slot machines. The Kaw tribe operates a large casino on the east side of Newkirk.
In Kansas, Sumner County commissioners have endorsed two proposals for casinos near Wellington near the Kansas Turnpike but did not endorse two bids from two other casino companies interested in resorts near the turnpike's Mulvane exit. The Mulvane City Council recently approved annexing property near the exit. |
