Three press operators from The News Journal say they won Thursday's New Jersey Pick Six jackpot worth $10 million.
Eddie Piotrowski, 58, of Christiana Hundred, said Friday he would return to work next week, at which time he might be willing to comment further on his plans.
"At this moment, I don't want to make any rash comments, statements or voice anything," said Piotrowski, who has been with the newspaper since 1967. "I just want to acknowledge that we got it, and that's it."
Piotrowski identified the other press operators are William T. Perri, 45, of Brookhaven, Pa., and David J. Gabel, 56, of Penns Grove, N.J. Both have been with The News Journal since 1989.
Tom Stetina, a press operator foreman, said Piotrowski called Friday morning to say he would not be coming to work. Perri made it into work at 9 a.m. But sometime after 10:30 a.m., Stetina said Perri told him that he was going to have to leave because "me and a couple of the guys hit the lottery."
"You're right. Go ahead," Stetina told Perri.
"I'm extremely happy for them," he added. "I wish I was in on it."
The winners, who called themselves the USAT Lucky 3, opted to be paid $10 million during the next 26 years, a New Jersey Lottery spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman would not release the names of the winners late Friday.
The ticket, which was the only winner, was purchased from Fornaro's Liquor Store in Pennsville, N.J.
"My husband and I have owned this store since December 1986, and this is the first winner of Pick Six," Fornaro's owner, Veronica Finlaw, said. "We're excited for the store. We're excited for the man. I wish him luck."
