No Trump: The Donald will skip casino hearing

Unfortunately, Donald Trump will never get to say those words to the House Speaker after the casino mogul yesterday declined an invitation to headline a glitzy casino hearing on Beacon Hill.

A public relations representative for The Donald telephoned the Herald yesterday to say neither Trump - nor his reality TV entourage - will be appearing at a Dec. 18 legislative session to consider expanded gaming in Massachusetts.

“I just want to clear up any confusion, Mr. Trump will not be attending,” said the PR rep, who did not specify a reason other than to say it’s not on The Donald’s schedule.

Trump, who is eyeing a casino partnership with owners of the Wonderland Greyhound track, was one of several casino moguls invited to testify at a hearing to consider the economic pros and cons of bringing casinos to the Bay State. Gov. Deval Patrick has proposed licensing three resort casinos by 2012.

Sheldon Adelson and Harrah’s CEO Gary Loveman are also on the guest list, but have not said whether they will attend, officials said.

At least one lawmaker is not upset that Trump is skipping the opportunity to grace the State House with his celebrity.

“That’s one of the most productive rejections I’ve ever had in my life,” said state Sen. Mark Montigny (D-New Bedford), a gaming skeptic who agreed to co-chair the hearing to examine casino economics.

“Now, maybe this hearing will be just a magic show, rather than a three-ring circus,” he added.
