Carolyn Hager is not accustomed to winning, so when she cashed in to the tune of more than $120,000, she didn't even realize it.
"I thought the machine malfunctioned," Hager said. "My husband and the guy next to me said I won, and I said, 'No, I didn't. I broke the machine.' "
Friday, the 60-year-old retiree from Chesaning collected $121,927 from a Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort's "I Love Lucy" quarter slot machine.
After taxes, her total win is about $80,000 -- still a lot more than she has ever won before.
"I've won 20 bucks or 30, but I just expected to come home with nothing," Hager said.
In fact, she says the stop at the casino outside Mount Pleasant was on a whim.
She and her husband, Joseph W. Hager, stopped there for lunch on the way to visit family in Gladwin.
"He said, 'Let's stop at the casino,' and so we did. We were going to play $20 each and then go eat," Hager said. "I didn't plan on playing to win."
Hager has no plans on how to spend the money.
"I didn't even spend the whole $20. Not a bad investment, huh?" v
