Lottery news from http://www.wtkr.com/

A North Carolina man beats the odds! Lightning hits his property twice and he hits the lottery big! If that's not amazing enough. It all happened in the last three weeks.

"The first storm two weeks ago actually hit over there and took out the grandson's swimming pool, come right down and blew it all up," said 75 year old Lewis Hudgins.

Hudgins couldn't believe the damage, his coffee pot, the clocks and his 30 inch tv were all fried. What were the odds? So Hudgins a regular lottery player bought a ticket. "I started checking the numbers and my son said, that's three dollars Daddy. So we're in good shape. I kept finding the numbers and the next thing you know he said that's 100 dollars. I said, I actually have a 4th one and he said, do you realize that's ten thousand dollars?"

Hudgins didn't want to look, knowing he was one number away from the 24 million dollar jackpot. Then, his celebration got a jolt and not in a good way.

"We came home and low and behold a second lightening strike just cam down and took out everything that was left, just about," Hudgins said.

For Lewis Hudgins that meant that part of his ten thousand dollar winnings would be spent on repairs, maybe even a few lightening rods.

"I've been told that lightening doesn't strike twice in the same spot. Well, it didn't strike twice, but it did strike between 50 yards no, 20 yards of each other," he said.

Hudgins says they were very lucky that none of his family was outside at the time. As for the lottery, he's taking it all in stride.

"I wasn't even thinking about getting excited I would have if I had got that other number. I probably would have passed out clean!" he said.

By the way, that final powerball number that would have yielded Mr. Hudgins a cool 24 million was 11. The number he chose was one.
