OKLAHOMA CITY The Oklahoma Lottery is approaching its one-year anniversary and its top official calls its performance "excellent" even though it's not producing quite as much money as projected.

But a long-time critic of lottery proposals in Oklahoma says it's no surprise the lottery isn't living up to expectations.

Lottery tickets first went on sale in Oklahoma last October 12th _ One year ago tomorrow.

Lottery officials say almost 243 (m) million in lottery sales have been recorded and more than 68-point-nine (m) million dollars has been collected to support education.

Supporters had predicted the lottery would generate up to 150 (m) million dollars a year for education and last month Lottery Commission executive director Jim Scroggins said it would generate 123 (m) million dollars this year for education.

Former state Representative Forrest Claunch of Midwest City led efforts against the lottery and says it's teaching children that gambling instead of a great education is the solution.
