Jeff Brin, 31, claimed a $25,000 prize in 2006 that he won with a $5 Holiday Grab Bag instant scratch ticket, and then on Wednesday, he won $100,000 on a $20 Golden Millions ticket -- the largest prize ever won by a Kansas Lottery player.
“You can play your whole life and never win more than $20,” Brin told lottery officials. “I don’t know why I’m so lucky.”
Both times, he bought his tickets when he went into convenience stores to buy sodas, according to a news release from the Kansas Lottery.
Brin spent the $20 on the Golden Millions ticket, he said, only because he had won $25 on a $2 ticket earlier in the week, Brin said.
“At first I thought I must have misread it,” he said. “I went back into the store and had them check it. When the terminal played the music, I knew for sure I’d won.”
Brin works for a floor covering business.
He plans to use the money to put a down payment on a house, according to the news release. |
