Online Poker: CaseyTheKid Makes History at FTOPS
CaseyTheKid Becomes First-Ever Two-Time FTOPS Winner
Full Tilt Online Poker Series Event No. 6: $75,000-Guaranteed Pot-Limit Omaha eight-or-better

Single people seem to like pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better. At least, that’s the impression one gets judging by the success of event No. 6 in the Full Tilt Online Poker Series III (FTOPS III) that ran last night, during Valentine’s Day. It’s either that or there are quite a few very understanding (or, alternately, ticked off) significant others out there who would eschew a day of scheduled affection to let their mate play online poker.

The tournament found 594 willing participants at $200 a pop to bring the prize pool to $118,800. Not bad, considering the posted guarantee was just $75,000, the lowest-guaranteed tournament of the series. (The pot-limit Omaha with rebuys event was previously scheduled to have the lowest guarantee, at $50,000, but the guarantee was upped to $100,000 before the tournament’s start.)

The most notable player at the final table was CaseyTheKid, who was sporting a coveted golden FTOPS jersey. He won the jersey at the first-ever FTOPS in (surprise!) the pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better event. He made $27,600 for his win in that tournament. He also made the final table of the main event at the FTOPS II, eventually busting out in ninth ($17,143).

CaseyTheKid came to the final table in fourth place, with $261,000 in chips, while the chip leader, jeciimd, had $371,000. However, it didn’t take long for CaseyTheKid to pull into the chip lead with $649,000 after just 30 minutes and two eliminations. With the chip lead and a previous win in the same event under his belt, it wouldn’t be hard to argue that he was the odds-on favorite to win the event.

CaseyTheKid’s stack didn’t look to stop growing anytime soon as he continued to steamroll the competition into four-way play. Fifteen minutes into the four-way match, he had amassed $1.3 million in chips. At this point, only two of the final four had more than four times the big blind in their chip stacks. Jeciimd, the chip leader previous to CaseyTheKid’s run, had just $79,000 left, with the big blind at $25,000. Ponga80 was even worse off with $30,000.

Ponga80 pushed all in preflop and was called by both blinds, dirty_snowmen and jeciimd. Both active players checked to the river, where the board was showing 6 6 2 K K. Dirty_snowmen bet $50,000 on the river, folding jeciimd. Dirty_snowmen revealed K J 4 2 in the pocket for a full house, kings full of deuces and Ponga80 mucked and was eliminated in fourth ($10,395).

Jeciimd was ousted in the very next hand. He raised all in preflop for his remaining $49,000 and CaseyTheKid called from the big blind and showed 10 4 3 2. Jeciimd turned over J 9 8 7 and the board ran out A 8 2 5 4. Jeciimd ended up with a pair of eights for a high hand and an 8-low for his low hand while CaseyTheKid completed a wheel to win both the high and low. Jeciimd earned $13,365 for his third-place finish.

CaseyTheKid now had $1.7 million in his stack compared to dirty_snowmen’s $438,000. Two minutes into the heads-up match, dirty_snowmen’s stack was down to just $38,000. CaseyTheKid raised to $50,000 preflop and dirty_snowmen called all in and showed K 9 8 3. He was up against the K 10 8 7 of CaseyTheKid as the flop came 10 8 4, giving CaseyTheKid two pair for the lead. The turn was the 4 and the river the 8, filling up a boat for CaseyTheKid to take the high hand on a board with no qualifying low. Dirty_snowmen got a $18,414 payday for second place.

CaseyTheKid won $29,700 for his finish in the tournament, but that wasn’t the most notable part of his victory by any means. He became the first-ever player to have won two FTOPS events, which technically means he’s won two golden FTOPS jersey avatars. Whether that means he truly will have two identical, exclusive avatars to choose from or not is anyone’s guess. The even more amazing thing about his second FTOPS win is that it was in the same event as his first, which puts CaseyTheKid squarely on the Full Tilt pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better throne.

1) CaseyTheKid - $29,700
2) dirty_snowmen - $18,414
3) jeciimd - $13,365
4) Ponga80 - $10,395
5) Boosted J - $7,722
6) dabigbird - $5,643
7) incha - $3,682.80
8) mildred53 - $2,970
9) DaBroWitDaFro - $2,316.60
