Pot-Limit Omaha Eight-Or-Better Event a Success
Pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better has been gaining quite a bit of popularity in recent years, so it came as no surprise when the pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better event surpassed expectations as this year's World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) at PokerStars. The event had a $300 buy-in, and 1,536 entrants plunked down that money to take a stab at snagging the top prize. That first-place payday came to more than $95,000 when the prize pool reached $460,800.

A few of the notable names, among many, who finished in one of the 225 paying places in the event were Team PokerStars members Humberto Brenes (40th) and Barry Greenstein (41st), both earning $1,382. Among those making the top 20 in the event, only PokerSavage1 and PokerSkiBum have more than four previous Online Player of the Year-qualified cashes. PokerSkiBum eventually exited the tournament in 18th place, earning $2,673.

PokerSavage1 made it to the final table of the event in fourth place in chips and tiger76 had a rather large chip lead with $1.1 million, almost twice as much as his closest competitor. PokerSavage1 eventually got all in preflop when the final table was down to four players. He was called by GotGame76, who held A 6 5 4, and he showed down A K 4 2. By the turn, he had snagged trip aces and a draw to a winning low, but GotGame76 had completed a full house, aces full of sixes, and was in prime position to eliminate PokerSavage1 from the running. The turn was painfully close to putting out a low when it brought a 9 and PokerSavage1 was out in fourth place ($27,095).

The three remaining players then paused the tournament to discuss a chop. GotGame, the chip leader, guaranteed himself the lion's share of the remaining prize pool with $68,974. Tiger76 secured $47,419 and INKO05 was guaranteed $46,784. The players were still playing for the $14,000 that was left in the middle, per the PokerStars chopping rules.

Tiger76 then took a big pot off of INKO05 and INKO05 was sent to the rail shortly thereafter. It was now heads up, and the chip lead wavered a few times between the two players before tiger76 pulled ahead in time for the final hand. The two players got all in on a board reading 8 5 3 7 and tiger76 turned over K 10 4 2 versus GotGame76's A Q 10 2. GotGame76 had the best low with a 7-5-3-2-A and the best high hand with just ace high. The river, however, brought another ace to complete a wheel straight and the nut low for tiger76. Tiger76 scooped the pot to earn the extra $14,000 and the WCOOP bracelet. His total winnings for the tournament came to $61,419, meaning that GotGame76 was the leading money-winner at the table.

The final results were:

tiger76 — $61,419 *

GotGame76 — $68,974 *

INKO05 — $46,784 *

PokerSavage1 — $27,095.04
mrmanorman — $21,196.80
Jackarama — $16,128
VicVega9 — $11,427.84
mikiantimd — $7,050.24
phyllis — $4,147.20
* Payout reflects a three-way deal made at the final table with $14,000 left for the eventual winner, per the PokerStars chopping rules.

Today's event is a $300 buy-in (with $20 entry fee) sixhanded no-limit hold'em event. The event had a $400,000 guarantee but lured 2,873 to more than double the guarantee with an $861,900 prize pool. The results of this event will be posted tomorrow. Tomorrow's event, which starts at 3 p.m. ET, is a $200,000-guaranteed seven-card stud eight-or-better tournament with a $500 buy-in (with $30 entry fee).
