STATELINE -- More than $25,000 in art was stolen last weekend from a gallery at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, the Douglas County sheriff's office said.
Two statues by the late artist Erte were stolen from Galeria Noir in the South Shore casino late Jan. 20 or early the next morning.
Both of the numbered-edition statues, about 16 inches tall, are of reed-thin women in Erte's signature style.
Entry likely was made by someone forcing the doors open by pulling on the brass door handle which separated the dead-bolted door from the frame, investigators said.
Security cameras taped two men who likely committed the burglary. Both were described as men, with one about 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches and about 200 pounds. The man had black hair and a black goatee.
The other man is described as 35 to 40 years old, five feet and 11 inches and about 200 pounds. He had black hair parted in the middle and wore eyeglasses.
The men left the casino in a silver 2007 Chevy Trailblazer with a roof rack. |
