Paragon Casino Donates Textbooks

MARKSVILLE, LA— The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe and Paragon Casino Resort recently donated approximately $25,000 worth of college textbooks to two not for profit agencies, Educational Services and the Rapides Parish Public Library.
Educational Services is a government-sponsored agency that is collecting used college textbooks, which are used to replenish the libraries of coastal campuses (adult learning centers, colleges, and libraries) that lost some or all of their collections during Hurricanes Katrina and/or Rita. The services representative, Ms. Susan Johnson, accepted the books on behalf of the agency. “I cannot adequately express my happiness at the thought of the joy these books will bring to so many people who no longer have access to this type of resource,” she stated. “Receiving 168 textbooks is a gift of such educational significance. I am much impressed by this enterprise’s community-minded philosophy.”
“The value of this donation to Educational Services, if all textbooks were to have been purchased today, is $15,511.24,” stated Paragon’s Vice President of Training, Lonnie Bridges. The Rapides Parish Public Library received 95 textbooks. The value of Paragon’s donation to the Rapides Parish Public Library system, if all textbooks were to have been purchased today, is $9,036.71. Mr. Wesley Saunders is the library employee who received the donation.
Paragon Casino Resort, owned by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, contributes to many not for profit organizations though its Donations and Sponsorships programs, as well as by providing in-kind services. Improving the quality of life of the communities it does business in is a major component of Paragon’s philosophy.
Opened on June 3, 1994, Paragon Casino Resort is located on Highway One in Marksville, La. It is a land-based facility with a 354-room hotel, a 72,120 square foot gaming floor offering approximately over 2,000 slot machines, 46 table games and an 9-table poker room. Among the resort’s other features include a 1,600-seat entertainment complex, six restaurants, a full-service RV resort, Kids Quest childcare activity center and a professional golf course. Paragon Casino Resort is owned and managed by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana.
