Pinnacle Entertainment filed documents Friday with the state Gaming Control Board to place a third riverboat casino in the Baton Rouge market.

The filing asks permission to berth a casino at a 35-acre tract on River Road near Bluebonnet Boulevard.

Through a subsidiary, Pinnacle bought the land as previously reported for $1.1 million on Sept. 13.

Pinnacle, which owns the L’Auberge Du Lac casino in Lake Charles, recently bought two more riverboat casino licenses from Harrah’s Entertainment for $70 million.

Pinnacle is using one license for Sugarcane Bay, a proposed $350 million casino resort adjacent to L’Auberge Du Lac, pending approval from Calcasieu Parish voters in a Nov. 7 local option election.

Publicly, Pinnacle has said nothing about a location for what will be its third Louisiana riverboat.

Spokeswoman Pauline Yoshihashi did not immediately return an e-mail message seeking details.

Baton Rouge already is home to the Belle of Baton Rouge, owned by Columbia Sussex, and Casino Rouge, owned by Penn National. Both existing boats are moored downtown.
