Police raid mobile gambling den, 23 arrested

Gambling news from http://www.thanhniennews.com/ Some one hundred gamblers taking part in a mobile gambling den were busted Saturday by northern police, 23 of which were collared on the scene, with the rest fleeing. At 11pm Saturday, July 22, Soc Son district police in Hanoi were tipped off that a large group of around 100 men and women had gathered at a farm under tents at the foot of Den (Black) Mountain to play dice for cash. Police in Soc Son district immediately deployed plain-clothes policemen to infiltrate the den before calling in another force to arrest the gamblers. Thirteen men and ten women were arrested in total, with 29 cars and VND108 million (US$6,800) seized. Under questioning, gamblers said they came in from as far as the northern provinces of Ha Tay, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, and Hanoi, staying in contact by handset to be informed of the latest locations. Police said the gamblers often chose remote areas to let the games go on, even holding one session on a river boat to avoid the long arm of the law. The Police search is continuing for the most ‘mobile’ of gamblers, who have thus far eluded arrest.
