Police raided a video store on Westford Street this afternoon and seized about $1,000 in cash, along with evidence of sports betting, illegal lotteries and illegal video poker machines.
Sgt. James Trudel said officers with the city's Special Operations Unit served a search warrant at 307 Westford St., about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, after obtaining information that the store was hosting illegal gaming.
The unit has been cracking down on sports betting across the city in conjunction with the start of football season, which usually brings an increase in such activity.
The store's owner was arrested and charged with promoting or operating an illegal lottery, Trudel said.
Police also found gang colors for sale, and several belt buckles with secret compartments holding knives, Trudel said. The store's owner, who was not immediately identified, will also face charges in connection with the hidden weapons, Trudel said, though it was not immediately clear what those charges will be.
