As it prepares to add slot machines, Pompano Park is to open its 2006-2007 season for harness racing and poker this afternoon.
The Pompano Beach facility is to operate live events each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through the end of November. It is to add Monday programs from December through April.
Pompano Park is to be open afternoons and evenings for simulcast wagering on horse and dog racing and jai alai at other pari-mutuel sites around the country.
In addition to its 43rd season of harness racing, Pompano Park is preparing to add slot machines.
In June, Pompano Park and its Biloxi, Miss.-based parent, Isle of Capri Casinos (NASDAQ: ISLE), began construction of a 150,000-square-foot "racino" building adjacent to its clubhouse/grandstand building.
The new building is to have 1,500 Las Vegas-style slot machines, a 34-table poker room, and seven restaurants and lounges.
Pompano Park officials have said they hope to open the racino in December or January.
