A 37-year-old man was arrested Friday on multiple charges for operating an illegal gambling operation on Northeast Halsey Street, police said.
James Wilcox was charged with five counts of gambling in the first degree, five counts of possession of gambling records in the first degree, and five counts of possession of gambling records in the second degree, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.
Portland Police entered Wilcox’s business in the 11900 block of Northeast Halsey Street with search warrants after a months-long investigation, he said.
Officers also executed warrants at his residence in the 700 block of Northeast Roselawn.
The investigation was launched after numerous complaints of cheating and unfair gaming at a business known as "Elite Events" in the 11900 block of Northeast Halsey Street, Schmautz said.
During the investigation, officers learned that Wilcox had been using the Internet to promote poker tournaments and has held more than 100 tournaments at the facility on Halsey Street.
Wilcox was booked into the Justice Center Jail. |
