The organisers of a pro-casino protest expect thousands of people to rally today and march against Government's planned changes to clamp down on the gaming industry.

Ma Pau casino manager Annette Richards said that the Association of Members Clubs planned to protest outside Whitehall in Port of Spain this morning after discussions with Minister in the Minister of Finance Conrad Enill failed to give them comfort as to the future or stability of the local gaming industry.

"We are marching for our jobs. We are marching for our livelihood. The Prime Minister needs to realise the trickle-down effect that his decisions will have on our families. What will we do when we are put on the breadline?" Richards asked.

Richards said during a telephone interview that casino operators, employees and their families were expected to gather at the Ma Pau car park in Woodbrook around 8 a.m. and proceed to march to Whitehall around 9 a.m.

She expressed concern that Prime Minister Patrick Manning's proposal to ban the importation and the use of slot machines with immediate effect, would not only dissuade development in the industry but would also impact the number of jobs that the industry created.

Richards said she feared that the long-term impact of an anti-casino approach would prohibit the operation of casino and casino-type establishments and serve to deprive the country of economic activity.
