HAMILTON (AM900 CHML) - There's criticism of the McGuinty government following the layoff of more than 100 casino employees in Niagara Falls.
Niagara-area Conservative MPP Tim Hudak complains that the job cuts come just weeks after the province announced it was spending 6 million dollars to drop the letter "C" from the Ontario Lottery And Gaming Corporation logo.
Hudak says it's a case of misplaced priorities.
He insists that 6 million dollars is what the province will save through the layoffs in Niagara Falls, combined with recent job cuts at the casino in Windsor.
Welland New Democrat Peter Kormos adds that a promise of retraining will be of little consolation to the laid off Niagara Falls workers, most of whom he says had already been retrained to work in the casinos after losing jobs in local factories.
The government has blamed the layoffs on technology, and a drop in the number of American visitors because of confusion over proposed new passport rules at the border.
