New source: Sun Herald - http://www.sunherald.com Return of the Summit By TOM WILEMON BILOXI - It's milestone of Biloxi's recovery tewilemon@sunherald.com The Southern Gaming Summit, the largest casino trade show held outside of Las Vegas, returns to Biloxi next year with a full slate of conferences and more than 300 exhibits. The educational seminars feature sessions presented by the International Masters of Gaming Law, a network of lawyers, regulators and others associated with the industry. The sessions include Indian gaming, legal ramifications of new technologies and managing casino liabilities. "I want each one to be a hands-on kind of legal session," said Britt Singletary, chairman of the program committee. "I want people to be able to really get something out of it." The summit, the Coast's largest annual convention, was held in Tunica this year because of hurricane damage to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. Its return is one of the milestones of recovery. The event is sponsored by the Mississippi Casino Operators Association in conjunction with Ascend Media Gaming Group. "The 2007 Southern Gaming Summit will provide an exceptional series of dedicated topics that will go well beyond typical conference programs," said Beverly Martin, executive director of the Casino Operators Association. Recovery and rebirth sessions will examine how the Mississippi and Louisiana markets are making progress in the wake of Katrina. Topics include an economic overview, a look at the Southern labor market, a resort development update and a view from the investment community. Slot Manager magazine will present a series of sessions on serve-based machines, cashless games, business intelligence and hot slot trends. Singletary said the tribal gaming session will focus on facts and the law. A representative of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will be invited to take part. The liability session will cover incidents that can result in a lawsuit: slips and falls, crimes committed by third parties and player disputes.
