Reward For Information In Casino Cases
A rash of Casino robberies in Sioux Falls has officials offering a reward for information leading to an arrest. This week, federal investigators announced they are now offering $10,000 to anyone who helps solve the case.
Since the beginning of August, Sioux Falls police have been trying to find those responsible for a several casino robberies. One casino, Jackson's Too, was held up twice. And robberies were also reported at the Cliffside and Royal Flush casinos.
In all of these hold-ups, two perpetrators were armed with hand-guns, were wearing bandanas and purple latex gloves.
"Eighty-three percent of robbers do not think they're gonna get caught..even though 57% of them that we talk to have already been in prison before," National Crime Expert Dr. Rosemary Erickson says.
Erickson says a reward can greatly increase the chance of catching robbers. Crime stoppers of the Sioux Empire is offering money and on top of that the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering $10,000 to anyone who comes forward.
"The robbers tell us that about 15 percent of the time they have been caught by crime stoppers in particular, by that reward being offered that's what makes people come forward," Erickson says.
And while she says a reward will often bring people forward, Erickson thinks these sioux falls casino robbers won't ever be caught.
"Theres always a chance that they could have left the area...the longer the time goes that they haven't been caught. But it will help that theres a reward offered because someone that may not want to turn them in now, might change their minds in three months," Erickson explains.
Erickson says one in four casino robbers are caught and that usually results from good police work and cash.
Crime stoppers is also offering a reward.
Friday the "Hole In The Wall" casino on West Russell Street in Sioux Falls was held up.
Police have not confirmed whether that incident is related to the previous casino robberies. |
